Overview:
The second wave of AEA superleague competition will be held as part from AEA international conference 2025. The AEA Superleague is a prestigious, high-energy team-based knowledge competition designed to celebrate clinical excellence, speed of thought, and team spirit among young Arab ophthalmologists. It will feature national teams competing in an exciting tournament format, testing knowledge across all subspecialties of ophthalmology.
The competition aims to:
- Encourage continuous learning and collaboration across Arab countries
- Spotlight exceptional clinical reasoning and up-to-date knowledge
- To foster a spirit of healthy competition that encourages the enhancement of scientific presentation, clinical reasoning, and communication skills among young ophthalmologists.
- Build camaraderie and national pride within the ophthalmic community
🧩 Competition Format:
✅ Preliminary Phase (Online)
- Team registration deadline: 15 August 2025
- Virtual qualifying round: September 2025
- Top 4 teams (From different Arab countries) qualify for the Finals in Alexandria
- Preparation phase with instructions to participating teams about the rules of the competition will be clarified.
🏁 Finals Format (Onsite) –
- Two Semifinal Matches: 10 December 2025 (Hall 4)
- Match 1: Team A vs Team B
- Match 2: Team C vs Team D
- Final Match: 12 December 2025 (the main hall)
- Winners of each semifinal face off in the Championship Round
Stages: the competition will be divided into 3 parts:
Part 1: Presentation: a pre announced topics will be assigned randomly to each of the 4 teams. Each team should nominate the presenter and assessment will include presentation in additions to discussion with the whole team about the topic of presentation.
Part 2: Team based question
- Each team will be asked a couple of questions in each of the following sections:
- Anterior segment
- Posterior Segment
- Neuro-ophthalmology
- Investigations
Part 3: individual based Questions:
- Each one of the team will be assigned to one of the following question categories:
- Instrument or device
- Medication
- Syndrome
- Test
- A committee of 4 judjes will be invited to judge the competition and discuss the presentations (to be assigned later on)
🧑⚕️ Eligibility Criteria:
- Each team consists of 4 young ophthalmologists (under 32)
- Participants must be practicing or training in an Arab country
- Participants must be in a training program ( residents or fellows)
- Teams must represent a single country (national team)
- Team name and captain must be designated upon registration
- All members must be registered for the conference
